INDIAN DIET.

Food is an integral part of human culture. A well-balanced diet and proper methods of consumption of food are very essential for our proper health. The eating habits and selection of food differ from region to region and place to place according to natural conditions.

Indian food is as diverse as India. Most of our regional diets are generally well balanced and a person does not have to spend any extra money on additional supplements. The food culture and traditions of India have been shaped by its long history, unique geography and greatly influenced by the various rulers, travelers, and neighbors.

2000 B.C - Indus valley civilization lays the foundation for the Ayurvedic style of cooking.

1000 B.C - Aryans (roots of Hinduism get shaped, Vedas and caste system developed).

    600 B.C - Buddhism and Jainism.

    400 B.C - Greeks.

1200 A.D - Persians and North Indian dynasties.

    1200 - 1500 A.D - Portuguese.

    1500 - 1800 A.D - Mughals.

    1800 - 1947 A.D - British-Anglo-Indian cuisine - Tea.

                                        Eating Habits.

People in India generally prefer to drink tea or coffee with the first meal of the day. They consider a healthy breakfast or Nashta, important. Lunch usually consists of mainly a dish of rice ( south and east India) and Rotis made from whole wheat ( northern and western India). During dinner, the whole family gathers and is considered as the main meal of the day.

                                        Proper Eating Manners.

In a common Indian house, we usually sit on the floor, pillow, or on low stools, and the food is eaten with the fingers of the right hand because it is taken into account important in Indian etiquette. After all, a person eating with his hands knows the exact temperature of food before the morsel hits the mouth thus preventing blisters within the mouth thanks to the consumption of hot food.
In south India, a cleaned banana leaf is often used as a hygienic and visually interesting alternative plate. Traces of magnesium and zinc present on the plantain leaf is said to have various health benefits. Besides, plantain leaves are completely biodegradable.

Indian cuisine can be split into 4 categories:- North, South, East, and West Indian.
Despite this diversity, some unifying threads emerge. Varied use of spices is an integral part of food preparation and is used to enhance the flavor of a dish and create unique flavors and aromas. Every spice in Indian food has many health benefits.

Traditional Indian food is not only healthy but also very tasty with a lot of health benefits. Indian food supports immunity, prevention of inflammation, brain function, and several other functions in the human body. It contains a lot of grains. Meals like rajma rice and dal rice are perfect protein meals with all the essential amino acids.

Each bowl is a traditional Indian thali has a small size. It includes 2-3 varieties of dal, sabzi, some rice or roti, or both, and a small amount of sweet dish. This makes a complete meal (a balanced diet).

Cooking oils used in the Indian kitchen are very healthy (when processed naturally like early days). Black salt, pink salt, and rock salt are native to India and are much healthier than today's refined version of salt.
Indian curry is good for immunity, can help reducing inflammation (the root cause of diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart diseases) when cooked with the proper amount of oil and the right ingredients.
Pickles made with the right quality of salt (rock salt) and oil are some of the best probiotic foods. Traditional Indian chutney made with ground leafy greens and seeds is very nutritious.
