TYPES OF DIET.

"DIET" we all have heard this word from many people like :

1. I am on a diet.

2. We should keep our diet proper.

3. We should have a balanced diet to keep ourselves fit and active.

But have you ever thought; what does diet mean?

So basically diet has 2 meanings :

  •  The kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.
  • A special course of food to which an individual restricts themselves, either to reduce weight or for medical reasons.

THESE SPECIAL COURSES OF FOOD ARE ALSO SOMETIMES CALLED AS DIET THERAPY.

There are different types of diets. Some of these diet plans/therapies may seem quite new or even unheard of by a few people.

  • Detoxification diet :

Fruits, raw vegetables, yogurt, and water are recommended to eliminate toxins that are caused by poor digestion of waste products absorbed from the environment.

Allergies, arthritis are claimed to be allayed by the detoxification process.

  • Raw food diet :

This therapy was developed by a Swiss doctor.

It consists of 70% of raw fruit and vegetables, 30% grains, dairy products, meat, and nuts.

It improves digestion and increases longevity and is said to maintain food chemical activity due to its being taken in cooked form.

  • Macrobiotic diet :

It was introduced by George Osawa, a Japanese practitioner who chose certain food items that stood the test of Yin or Yang factors. Foods like fruits, nuts, and vegetables are called calming foods (Yin foods). Root vegetables, cereals, and fish are called strengthening foods (Yang foods).

  • Gerson therapy :

Devised by American doctor Dr. Max Gerson. He described it as an anti-cancer regime.

Aim: Raising the alkaline levels of body tissues.

It is based on an organic vegan diet, low salt, supplemented with an hourly intake of vegetables and fruit juice, and coffee enemas.

CONTROVERSIAL THERAPY WITH NO MEDICAL AND THERAPEUTICAL SUPPORT.

  • Vegetarian diet :

Only meat and fish are excluded but dairy products and eggs are included in it apart from the inclusion of a major portion of vegetables and fruits.

Vegetarianism is said to reduce the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseases, cancer of the colon, and osteoporosis.

The vegetarian diet is being accepted as an all-inclusive potent food plan for many health problems.

  • Vegan diet :

It excludes eggs, dairy products, and honey but relies only on fruits and vegetables. This diet is deficient in vitamin B12. It is a protein-enriched diet that is supplied by pulses, grains, nuts, and cereals.

Disorders like hypertension, arthritis, angina, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma are claimed to have been cured by this therapy.

  • Hay diet :

Dr. William Hay of the USA developed this dietary pattern (Food combining diet). He was firm of the view that carbohydrates and proteins should not be taken in the same meal as both of them are foods that fight.

Proteins cause the stomach to produce an acid while carbohydrates ought to be digested in an alkaline environment but natural food can efficiently combine with either group. Hence it is better to eat only a hay diet.

  • Ornish Reversal Diet :

Dr. Dean Ornish believed that an ideal diet should consist of high carbohydrates and fiber, but low animal products, non-fat milk, and yogurt.
Some American doctors rely on his suggestions to reverse heart diseases, of course with the support of meditation, yoga, and exercise.

So these were some diet plans. Tell me which diet plan you liked and which you thought was different and new, in the comments till then
